Dear Friends, Please read then forward this email (post) on the Minnesota Precinct Caucus information below. It describes in a nutshell what will happen on Feb. 7th! Share it with your family, neighbors, and anyone you would like to engage in Caucuses! (updated 1/18/2012) Cindy
Minnesota Precinct Caucuses are being held Tuesday, February 7, 2012, 7:00 p.m. This is our opportunity to get together with our neighbors and start the political process that leads to the election of representatives from our neighborhoods to serve as: 1 - Our delegates to the *BPOU - County/State Senate/State House District, Congressional District, and State GOP Conventions; 2 - Endorsement of our candidates: State House, State Senate, US House, and US Senate; 3 - Definition of our Party platform; and 4 - Selection of party leaders. Please plan to attend, and encourage your family and neighbors to take part. Please Note: Anyone who will be 18 years old by Tuesday, November 6, 2012, is eligible to vote for delegates, run to be a delegate, and vote in the Presidential Straw Poll! Anyone under age 18 can still attend Caucuses as a guest! There is room for everyone to get involved! Arrive as early as 6:00 p.m. to find your Precinct and meet your neighbors! * BPOU stands for Basic Political Operating Unit. Presidential Straw Poll - At this year's Precinct Caucuses, we will be conducting a Presidential Straw Poll. While this poll is not binding, Minnesota is early in the National GOP Caucus/Primary process this year, so our results will be announced nationally! The Straw Poll will occur within each Precinct after every precinct caucus attendee has properly signed in. This takes a little while, so Straw Poll voting may not occur until after 7:30 p.m. Please be patient with the process and assist your Caucus Conveners whenever possible! We are all volunteers! After the Straw Poll, Caucus attendees will elect Delegates to represent your Precinct at your Senate District Convention. We will also review and vote on the MN GOP Platform recommendations submitted by our neighbors. At the Senate District Convention, we will endorse our candidates for State Representative and State Senate and review the MN GOP Platform recommendations. We will also elect our Delegates for the Congressional and State Conventions. At the Congressional District Convention, Delegates will endorse our candidate for US House and continue the discussion about the MN GOP Platform recommendations. At the State Convention, Delegates will elect our GOP National Delegates who get the privilege of voting to endorse our candidate for President of the United States! Delegates also endorse our candidate for US Senate and continue the discussion about the MN GOP Platform recommendations. And it all starts in our neighborhoods on February 7, 2012! Please plan to join us. If you can’t commit to being a Delegate, show up and vote for your neighbors to serve as Delegates. * Please note: It is very important for every person who runs to be a Delegate or Alternate Delegate make the commitment to attend the conventions and Senate District meetings that follow for the next two years. Conventions and Senate District meetings require quorums, which means a certain number of elected Delegates are required to be in attendance in order for business to progress. If the BPOU rents a facility and goes through all the volunteer hours to put together meetings/conventions but has to reschedule, our valuable donation dollars are wasted. So please plan to attend if you run to be a Delegate or Alternate Delegate. In addition, our entire organization runs on the efforts of volunteers. Every Caucus, Senate District meeting, convention, Congressional District meeting, GOP event, fundraiser, candidate campaign, sign installation, literature distribution, phone call, election planning session, Get-Out-The-Vote effort, phone bank, etc., are all planned and executed by volunteers. Please consider playing a role in any part of the organization. It’s fun, because we get to hang out with like-minded people who are committed to the same causes we are! I have to admit we have met some of the best friends we have through political volunteer efforts. And when our candidates win, we all win!

Hello everyone! Precinct Caucuses are around the "corner". We have about 4 weeks left. A few quick "housekeeping" items for your BPOU. 1. Email everyone on your BPOU list/s to remind them when and where their precinct caucuses will be. 2. Contact your County Auditor's Office and let him/her know the location of each precinct caucus site. I believe this is mandatory. 3. Contact your local newspapers with your precinct caucus site / time / and date info. Most local papers have a community bulletin board section and will do it for free. 4. Write at least one letter to the editor for each of your local papers promoting the precinct caucuses. Try to time this so that the letter goes out the week before the caucuses. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thanks, God's peace, Jim Newberger CD6 Dep. Chair 763 482 9486 |

Q: Do you have to pre-register to vote at Precinct Caucuses?
There is no pre-registration for Precinct Caucuses on Feb 7 in Minnesota. Precinct Caucuses are not a normal election. Minnesota's Primary election is on August 14.

Here is some more information about what happens at Precinct Caucuses.

Q: What do caucus attendees do?
-
- Discuss public policy issues and pass resolutions
Caucuses provide a forum for citizens to engage their neighbors in a conversation on a wide range of public policy and political issues. Attendees may also offer and vote on resolutions to shape the party's platform.
- Vote in a straw poll
Political parties may conduct a straw poll to gauge caucus attendees' candidate preferences for state or federal elected offices.
- Elect precinct officers
Caucus attendees elect officers who will be responsible for organizing political activities within the precinct.
- Elect delegates
Caucus attendees elect delegates and alternates to represent their precinct at the political party's county or district convention. District convention delegates in turn, elect delegates to the political party's congressional and state conventions. Delegates influence which candidates and policy positions their party ultimately endorses.

There is a sweeping movement underway with the aim to CHANGE THE WAY WE ELECT THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. The goal is to replace our current electoral college with a National Popular Vote. Under the National Popular Vote bill, all of the state’s electoral votes would be awarded to the presidential candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
The bill has been enacted by 9 jurisdictions possessing 132 electoral votes -- 49% of the 270 necessary to activate it (VT, MD, WA, IL, NJ, DC, MA, CA, HI). Bills have been introduced in both legislative bodies in St. Paul this last session.
Come hear both sides of the argument and become well informed on this important subject !

Ten years later and the anger comes back quite easily. They tried to kill over 100,000 of us, but its me that has the issue the current administration of my Government has problems with.
My standing September 11th page. Never Forget
I'm not sure if I will post on my thoughts 10 years later or not, but I will be on the Late Debate Sunday night at 10PM.
Here's a decent bit of info on that day few of us will ever forget from KFAN's Dan Barerro

Last night's training event was a great success. We had over 50 activists and leaders brave the 105 degree heat index to travel to Coon Rapids. We had Republican leaders from 7 of the 8 Minnesota Congressional Districts there last night to learn tips and get advice on how to become even more effective.
Thank you to our presenters Tom Emmer, Becky Alery, Joel Cary, David Sturrock, Chuck Roulet, and David FitzSimmons who covered topics from treasurer to caucuses, to new media.
More importantly, thanks to everyone who attended. We once again proved we're not resting on our laurels and intend on continuing the winning streak at the grassroots level and elections.
Together we can move mountains. |
